How does it work?
ExpressMarine uses parametric input to generate a detailed 3D structural model of your vessel directly within Rhino. This parametric approach ensures fast, flexible, and highly adaptable modeling — making it easy to accommodate design iterations and updates.

From the model, you can obtain the following key results:

-
Early-stage Structural Weight and Center of Gravity (CoG) calculations
-
Concept design volume definitions
-
Tonnage calculations
-
Early-stage Bill of Materials (BOM) generation
-
Section modulus calculations
-
Area calculations
-
Export of weight results to ShipWeight
-
Export of structural models to ShipConstructor via the Genesis API
-
Export of structures to OCX format for class approval

Starting Point
All you need to begin is a 3D hull surface and, optionally, a general arrangement (GA) drawing. The main structural objects are defined by their surfaces or surface positions, along with extrusion limits, to build up the ship’s structural framework.

Parametric Modelling of Main Objects
Each object is created with its associated metadata, such as material and thickness.
Defined objects can serve as geometric limits for subsequent elements, establishing dependencies between surfaces that make model updates quick and consistent.

Seams, Faceplates, Stiffeners, and Cutouts
These secondary structural elements are also defined parametrically. You can use predefined templates or freely trace custom geometries to place seams, faceplates, stiffeners, and cutouts directly on surfaces.

Volume Definition
Use the structural model’s objects as boundaries to define internal volumes. You can create addition or subtraction parts to model complex shapes as needed. Generate comprehensive volume and tonnage reports, complete with calculations and results derived from the defined volumes.

Section Modulus Calculations
A dedicated tool allows you to calculate key section properties, including:
-
Cross-sectional area
-
Neutral axis position (from baseline)
-
Moment of inertia

Export to Other Software
Your completed ExpressMarine model can be exported seamlessly to:
-
ShipWeight – for weight and CoG management
-
ShipConstructor – via the Genesis API
-
OCX format – for classification society approval
